Jamaica: an interactive space–time laboratory

Select a real domain, inspect a 250/500 m representation cell, and move through the archived hours. Switch to clearly labelled conceptual scenarios to explore the next research stage.

INTERACTIVE GEOGRAPHICAL FIGUREJamaica: terrain, voxels and stored time
Real terrain and historical NASA POWER inputs, 1–3 July 2024 UTC. The 250/500 m boxes are representation cells; their repeated rainfall value retains the coarse source support. Select a box and scrub time. Open full explorer and provenance.

Data and numerical provenance

The two 8 × 8 km domains use real terrain sampled from Mapzen/Terrarium elevation tiles: Kingston at 17.98° N, 76.79° W, and the Blue Mountain domain at 18.046° N, 76.58° W. The retained 65 × 65 elevation mesh is interpolated for display. Bathymetry is clamped at sea level. Terrain and cloud-obscured MODIS true colour are geographic context; neither supplies fine-resolution atmospheric observations.

Historical forcing is NASA POWER hourly data, 1–3 July 2024 UTC, including corrected precipitation, 2 m temperature, wind and shortwave input. The meteorological support is coarse MERRA-2, approximately 0.5 × 0.625°, with coarser solar support. A 250 m or 500 m output cell repeats a parent value; no invented sub-kilometre rainfall variation is added. The charts display returned values and units. A pointer identifies a fine cell’s location and terrain, not a newly observed weather station.

The satellite context is NASA GIBS MODIS Terra true colour from 3 July 2024; it is a dated image, not a live basemap. The source responses, URLs, sampling notes and retrieval timestamps are preserved in the two JSON domain files. Replaying backwards changes the stored timestamp. Scenario wind and thermal anomalies are explicitly constructed and follow Paper 7, not the historical meteorological analysis.

Inspect a sampled field

Inspect a sampled field. Filled isometric scientific teaching instrument. The carriage represents an observation with a particular footprint. Only additional independent information can establish the missing detail.
Constructed teaching model. Use the control to inspect the relationship.

The carriage represents an observation with a particular footprint.

Constructed explanatory instrument; it is not an observed atmospheric field or a trained-model result. Geometry uses Anatomy (MIT). The paper states its evidence and limits.
